Let’s talk about nail polish and weddings!
Are you going the traditional french manicure route or will you choose a funky color that pops? My wedding was in August and I decided to to go with a sorbet orange shade.
My wedding dress was a champagne taffeta and was accessorized with my beautiful pearl earrings. Since I was going for a streamlined look I didn’t wear anything else and wanted to infuse fun into my look. That’s why I went for a punch of color on my nails! It worked well against the vibrant green of the Irish landscape and bright bold colors around us.
One thing I have to say is that I decided to do my own nails in order to save money. It was a pain retouching up my nails the night before my wedding at 1:00AM but I still think it was worth it!

How do you pick your favorite wedding photo?

Our wedding photographer, Lisa Rigby did a cute valentine’s post and asked her brides & grooms of 2010 what their favorite wedding photo was and why. It was interesting to see everyone’s pics and why that photo was so special to them.

It was an incredibly hard decision but we decided to pick one that was most “us.”

Here’s what we picked!

“When Lisa asked us what our most cherished photo was, there was no question. Here we were sitting in the middle of a field on the coast of Ireland on our wedding day. It was incredibly surreal. I love that Lisa was able to capture such a personal moment that shows the sweetness in our relationship and who we are as a couple.”

Wedding at the Art Institute of Chicago

via Style Me Pretty

There are ballrooms, restaurants, farms, wineries, museums……the list continues. These days you are not restricted to just “banquet halls.”

I love this wedding at the Art Institute of Chicago. It is clean, crisp, contemporary and cool. I feel that museums are one of the types of venues that offer the most uniqueness and you can really be clever in how you design the space.

Where is the best place to take engagement photos in Boston?

via Better Than Fine

We took our engagement photos along Charles Street. It turned out to be a great location. The mix of trendy boutiques and historic beacon hill really lead itself to some really interesting photos (thanks to Kate Rose of course!)

Boston has so many great locations that I would love to share them with other brides! Please email me at peachesbyplums@gmail.com and I’ll be sure to post the results!

Are you looking for the perfect song for your first dance? You can go ahead and stop your search, I think I’ve found it for you- Roberta Flack’s “First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.”  Go ahead, give it a listen. It’s perfect isn’t it?

Dance Lessons: Yay or Nay?

via ritzy bee blog

We are in the middle of creating the best wedding package in the city of Boston but to do this I have been completing a menu competitive analysis of other venues in the city. I have to say, I’m not surprised that the newly engaged brides are completely overwhelmed. There are way too many options out there. Some venues offered linens, others included chivari chairs but the most unique was complimentary dance lessons.

This got me thinking, do most couples take professional dance lessons before the big debut? When I watch the brides and grooms on the dance floor I had always assumed they were all so naturally talented. Maybe it’s because they had a great instructor!

What do you think? Dance Lessons: Yay or Nay?

Is champagne a deal breaker at a wedding reception?

via { wit + delight }

When talking to brides I’ve heard mixed reviews. Some feel that it’s a staple and a statement of celebration and others find that no one really cares about it.

At our wedding reception we decided to have a champagne cocktail reception and I have to say, it was amazing. We didn’t however have a champagne toast during dinner. It was a nice trade off.

Personally I feel that it’s nice to incorporate champagne in some way at your wedding. It’s like the icing on the cake.

it was the way the wind blew

via Lisa Rigby Photography

I cannot thank our family and friends enough for all of the love and support that they shared with us on our Wedding Day. Although there was sunshine and smiles, there was one thing missing on that beautiful day, Ger’s mom. After a long battle of cancer, Isabel passed away just days before the wedding.

When you start on the journey of planning your wedding, you don’t realize the decisions you’ll need to make, the hurdles you’ll have to cross or the life lessons you’ll learn.

Our wedding planning took on a new meaning the day we found out that my mother-in-law had cancer in February 09’. The road was never easy but the importance of love, sacrifice and patience were all things that I was lucky enough to learn.

When you have days where you are fighting over flowers, linens or the menu please remember that it just doesn’t matter. Look around and remind yourself the wonderful things you are able to celebrate.

Weddings are for families and friends to come together. For us, It was the way the wind blew that we new Isabel was with us on our special day.

see you here and there

Hi Guys,

Been away for a while. It’s my last week of work until I fly to Ireland on Sunday and it’s been so crazy. I have three weddings starting Friday before I can even think about my own. We have exactly ten days until the big day and I have yet to pack. Best I get on that.

In case I don’t have time to say it, thanks for reading along and I can’t wait to share with you my adventure when I get back.

P.S I have three weeks off and will be back on the 24th. I hope you have an awesome August! See you soon.

Happy Saturday. We are three weeks from the wedding! I hope you’re ready.

wild flowers and wild fun

via Olivet

My original idea for my wedding bouquet was to use wild flowers that I would pick from the local market the day before my wedding.

Reality kicked in and realized that I was leaving a lot up to fate.  There was the possibility that I would not be able to find anything I liked nor have the time to put them together.

I love Mary’s DIY bouquet. She did a great post on how to assemble this simple bouquet, here. Although I gave up on the dream of doing my own bouquet, you don’t have to! Was anyone up for the challenge?

it’s the final countdown…one month, baby.

A lot has happened in the past month, this & this

To be honest, it’s been hard to continue the wedding planning with everything going on but we must move forward.

Let’s revisit the list and see what we have left to do…

-Choose/Design & Send Wedding invitations     (Well, I gave up on doing invitations and think we will just send everyone a link to our website- no joke.)
We ending up buying invitations and now they are lost in the mail.

-Create Wedding Website for Guests Who am I kidding, no one is going to look at our stupid wedding website, whatever.

-Finish Pre-nuptial classes for the church

-Get my wedding dress altered (starting on Saturday!) Done! I am going back in July to make sure everything is all set!

Had my second dress fitting yesterday and it was perfect :). She is going to pack it in a carry on for me the week before my wedding so I can get it over to Ireland. Thank god something is going right.

-Buy my wedding shoes so I can get my dress altered Decided to just wear the shoes I work at our first wedding.  No one will ever see them right?

-Pick menu for our reception- Just about completed All set after much debate. Again, don’t get me started.

-Buy wedding band- Yep, not done. Meeting Ger in Dublin when I arrive and going to pick out bands together then.

-Confirm timeline for ceremony & reception- Almost done  All set.

-BOOK FLIGHTS SO WE CAN GET MARRIED!!- Haha…still not done.  I’ll leave this one up to Ger.  Let’s hope the volcanic ash clouds don’t get in our way!  Still don’t have them booked. What is my deal?

-Beg for time off from work so I can therefore book my flights I’ve decided that I shall not have to beg, it’s my wedding, people will get over it.   3 weeks baby!

-Decide when we are going to go to Japan on our honeymoon Waiting until next year when we have more time.  However, will be going on a surprise honeymoon- Ger to put together.  Not sure if we are going to be able to go on a honeymoon anymore. Will depend on circumstances.

Items added to the list…

-Pick Music for Ceremony- When we were in Ireland we met with a couple who will be playing at our wedding. Can’t wait.

-Pick Wedding Cake Bakery/Organize Details

-Organize Flowers

-Book Hair & Makeup

-Book Guest Rooms

-Relax and realize that it’s only a wedding (I think I’ll move this one up to the top.) Really had to put in perspective these days.

I hope I don’t sound too bitter because honestly I’m not. Just trying to keep moving and keep moving until we get to August 7th.

what does a bride keep in her clutch?

via With This Ring

I’m torn as to whether I need or don’t need a “wedding” clutch.

What would I use it for? I won’t be carrying around my phone, house keys, headphones or camera. All I would really have is lipstick and maybe gum and I could pawn it off on my lovely mother, right?

There are so many lovely clutches in the world but I’m the type that would buy it and leave it in the wedding suite where it would just take up space in my suitcase.

Did you have a clutch on your wedding day? Was it useful or did it just get in the way?
