I am back in the states after visiting my husband in Ireland. I miss him dearly and it’s incredibly difficult to be apart for so long.
The past year has been unspeakably hard but know that if we can get through this time in our lives, we will be able to sleep in a storm.

The all too familiar feeling…the strong desire to move to Europe! I swear it’s like clock work.
This week I would love to move to Southern France or to the coast of Italy. Now it’s not a far fetched dream as my husband is European and I could easily move and work there without any visa problems. We’ve been down this road before, at one stage we were moving to Ireland and the next it was Belgium. It is hard to pull the trigger and leave our cozy home in New England but I would like to think that one day we’ll move across the sea.

Happy Birthday, Husband!

via Classic Bride

I will flying to Ireland to see my husband in 23 days!! We’ll get to really celebrate then.

Love you xoxo

Except in my case where it’s the exact opposite. Finally made it to Ireland today after a 7 day delay and snow storms after “snowloko” impeding our trip.

Although we didn’t make it for the holiday festivities we are excited to be visiting the family for a little while. Ger won’t be coming back with me (see previous posts about visa) so it’s nice to spend an extra couple days together.

We’ve since vowed that we will never travel during the holidays again. TOO MUCH STRESS.

Anyway, I’m terribly jet lagged so I must go but I’ll leave you with just one thought: Is there anything worse than when you settle into your seat on a 6 hour plane ride and right away the person in front of you puts their seat back all the way and you have about an inch between you and their head?  Just a little food for thought.

I feel like Charlie Brown right now. Due to all of the snow in Europe our flight to Ireland was canceled. We won’t be able to get to Dublin until Monday.
This year has been a true test of patience for me. One thing constantly after another. We also just found out that Ger won’t be joining me back in the States for at least another 7 months. Did you hear that? I said 7 MONTHS. It is absolutely unbelievable and leaves me completely unglued. If you remember we started this Visa disaster back in May and it still isn’t resolved.
To try to redeem Christmas and our last few days together we’ve decided to do our best to make the holidays special. I put up the tree, the turkey is defrosting and most importantly we are all stocked up with alcohol.
We will keep moving forward…

less than two months away!

Can you believe that Christmas is less then two months away? It usually takes me a trip to NYC to see all of the beautiful store windows to get me in the mood.

We’ll be spending the holidays in Ireland this year but we’ll still put up the tree and decorate. There is nothing better than listening to a little Vince Guaraldi with a fire going.

My only wish is that we had more dinner parties and entertained during these festive times. Do people in their twenties even have dinner parties or is it something you do when you are sophisticated and in your thirties?

Choosing our photographer is one of the biggest decisions we made when making wedding plans.

As you remember, we had a tough time picking our photographer. Our search started with photographers from Ireland but we quickly got discouraged. It suddenly occurred to us to look for more someone local in Boston and try to convince them to travel to Ireland with us for the wedding. I couldn’t be more excited to have one of the best photographers in Boston actually say yes! Lisa Rigby was absolutely phenomenal. She arrived in Ireland on Wednesday and was there to shoot the whole weekend affair. At the end, it was as if she was really part of the family. It made the experience that much more special.

Here are a few photos of us around the town of Dungarvan, a small fishing port located on the southeastern coast of Ireland. Its quaint feel makes it a great place to get to know the locals.

Thank you to our friends Stephen and Steve for joining us in our photos!

it was the way the wind blew

I cannot thank our family and friends enough for all of the love and support that they shared with us on our Wedding Day. Although there was sunshine and smiles, there was one thing missing on that beautiful day, Ger’s mom. After a long battle of cancer, Isabel passed away just days before the wedding.

When you start on the journey of planning your wedding, you don’t realize the decisions you’ll need to make, the hurdles you’ll have to cross or the life lessons you’ll learn.

Our wedding planning took on a new meaning the day we found out that my mother-in-law had cancer in February 09’. The road was never easy but the importance of love, sacrifice and patience were all things that I was lucky enough to learn.

When you have days where you are fighting over flowers, linens or the menu please remember that it just doesn’t matter. Look around and remind yourself the wonderful things you are able to celebrate.

Weddings are for families and friends to come together. For us, It was the way the wind blew that we new Isabel was with us on our special day.

see you here and there

Hi Guys,

Been away for a while. It’s my last week of work until I fly to Ireland on Sunday and it’s been so crazy. I have three weddings starting Friday before I can even think about my own. We have exactly ten days until the big day and I have yet to pack. Best I get on that.

In case I don’t have time to say it, thanks for reading along and I can’t wait to share with you my adventure when I get back.

P.S I have three weeks off and will be back on the 24th. I hope you have an awesome August! See you soon.

where oh where are you my little invitations?

For budgeting purposes and for the sake of my sanity we decided to do a website “invitation” for everyone and have them RSVP via email. Well, that idea was vetoed.

In a last minute scramble I scoured the internet for invitations that were us, matched our wedding style and didn’t cost loads of money.

I was so happy to find these invitations on minted! They were simple, modern and really cool.  Luckily they only cost us $220! Do you like them?

We mailed out the invitations on June 4th from Ireland. I was so excited for everyone to receive them. A week went by, two weeks went by, a month went by and no invitations were to be seen in the United States. Luckily our guests in Ireland, Spain and England received them however, 47 of our guests from the US never did.

What was I going to do now? We are less then a month away and I couldn’t order more invitations. They would never get here in time. We tried to reach out to as many people as possible to let them know what was going on.

So my friends, if any of you are reading this blog, please forgive me if the invitation did not arrive. We did not forget about you.

Love,

Abby xoxo
