Let’s Talk About Food Festival

It’s been quite a foodie weekend here at Peaches by Plums! From watching Food Inc. for the first time and changing my perspective on food to attending ButterGirl’s dessert tasting, I’ve realized that there are a lot of great things happening in the food industry. The event that kicked off this food venture for me was the Let’s Talk About Food Festival that took place in Cambridge, MA.

Let’s Talk About Food….

“Launched in Boston 2010, in dynamic partnership with the Museum of Science, Let’s Talk About Food Initiative hopes to become a national, educational, event driven, organization that creates programs to increase the level of public literacy about all aspects of our food system – from sustainability, to cooking, to obesity and other food-related health issues, to fishing and farming, food access, food justice, food safety, environmental concerns, agriculture and nutrition policy, and at the same time celebrates the richness that good food brings to our world.” LTA Food

Regardless of the dreary weather, the event went off without a hitch. Here’s a sneak peek into this amazing festival!

Food trucks lined the street and ranged from Vietnamese cuisine to BBQ. I made sure to visit the grilled cheese truck and grabbed a cupcake from kick ass cupcakes on the way out.

On the main stage were presentations from top chefs (literally!- see photo below of Tiffani Faison of Top Chef Season 1 and Top Chef All Stars) and top restaurants in the city discussing sustainable food and performing awesome food demos.

This event really kicked off my focus in living a sustainable life. It was approachable, fun and truly showcased how easy it is to care about what you are eating. I can’t wait until the next Let’s Talk About Food Event!

Where is the best place to take engagement photos in Boston?

via Better Than Fine

We took our engagement photos along Charles Street. It turned out to be a great location. The mix of trendy boutiques and historic beacon hill really lead itself to some really interesting photos (thanks to Kate Rose of course!)

Boston has so many great locations that I would love to share them with other brides! Please email me at peachesbyplums@gmail.com and I’ll be sure to post the results!

Dance Lessons: Yay or Nay?

via ritzy bee blog

We are in the middle of creating the best wedding package in the city of Boston but to do this I have been completing a menu competitive analysis of other venues in the city. I have to say, I’m not surprised that the newly engaged brides are completely overwhelmed. There are way too many options out there. Some venues offered linens, others included chivari chairs but the most unique was complimentary dance lessons.

This got me thinking, do most couples take professional dance lessons before the big debut? When I watch the brides and grooms on the dance floor I had always assumed they were all so naturally talented. Maybe it’s because they had a great instructor!

What do you think? Dance Lessons: Yay or Nay?

What a beautiful skirt! It would be the perfect outfit for our snowstorm that we are getting tomorrow!

It’s a cold day in Boston. I wouldn’t be surprised if it actually started snowing.

Nutella Hot Cocoa would certainly do the trick!

ireland wedding: dress fitting fun!

Are you ready to move on to the next wedding because I am! Now that the wedding in Pennsylvania is over, it’s time to focus on the wedding in Ireland.

My family flew in to visit a couple weeks ago so I decided to take the opportunity to have my first dress fitting. Despite the mass flooding of 2010 we had in Boston that weekend, we had blast!

I decided to go to Bridal Alterations by Anahit in Newton, MA. I had heard a lot of great reviews and they certainly did not disappoint!

My dress had been tucked away for months in our closet tempting me to try it on.  I was so excited to finally put it on at the shop. Can you tell that I was happy?

As you can see, much of the time involved me holding up the dress for pinning. Even my cousin, Hannah, was put to work!

I’m sure you know this look “Mom, please stop taking my picture, we are in public and you’ve already taken 500 photos.” P.S Don’t you love the cart full of bras?

If you take a look in the mirror you can see the back of my dress.  Originally this dress had straps and the back was straight across.  Anahit suggested that since I won’t be wearing the straps, that we make the back into a “v” shape so matches the design of the dress.  I especially love the tulip bustle for the train!

Here is the family shot you were waiting for!

I’m back in July for my second fitting and the final touches.

Anyone else hate dress shopping but loved the dress fitting?

The best part is is that they are coming to Boston! On April 15th in Somerville come join us for some cupcake tasting!

Anyone want to go?
