A Saturday at the Waltham Farmers Market

What a Saturday! Being in the events industry having a Saturday off is very rare so I knew I had to take advantage. Who knew the fun I would have.

My day started off with a trip to the car wash. I hadn’t been to a car wash since I was very young. It was 3 minutes of pure childlike bliss. I forgot how magical it can be. The track takes you along through the swirling bubbles and brushes and just consumes you. You sit back and just soak it all in (pun intended.) For only $9 I may have to go back every weekend for a cheap thrill and a trip back in time.

As I left the car wash a string of tents caught my eye. I decided to head towards them to see what was going on. It was a farmers market! Nothing says community more then a farmers market on a Saturday morning. I got out of the car and decided to bring my camera to practice my photography skills. It was a perfect opportunity for me to get over my fear of photographing strangers in public.

I spotted a beautiful stand with sweets lined up perfectly from ButterGirl. I am a brownie fanatic and spotted the most delectable treats. Laurelyn (ButterGirl) is based in Somerville and bakes out of her home. She offered me samples of everything. I didn’t say no! After minutes of deciding which one to buy I decided on the chocolate brownie with walnuts. It was moist, fudgy and delicious. I know I’ll be having more of ButterGirl’s sweets soon!

Right next door I found Deborah’s Kitchen, another fantastic find! I have to say, I was yet again lured in by the samples of fruit spread. The array of different combination was very tempting. I decided to try the Wild Blues a mixture of wild main blueberries and lime. I quickly got out my pocket book and passed over the $7.50 for a 9oz jar and never looked back.

Walking around, talking to each vendor and learning about the products was really the icing on the cake. I felt a deep connection to the neighborhood and to local businesses. An unexpected adventure ended in an amazing day. I wonder where we’ll go next week?
